Mamajuana Cafe

Mamajuana Cafe expands to H-Town from NYC with Latino-Caribbean-Asian fusion menu — plus a speakeasy

Mamajuana Cafe, a staple among Dominican restaurants in New York City, is dipping its toes into the Texas market next week when it opens in downtown Houston.

Family members Janet Montanez, Edison Zorrilla and Jeremy Zorrilla are the owners of Mamajuana, which already has nine locations throughout New York and New Jersey, plus two in Florida. The family moved to Texas in 2010 and has been plotting to open a Mamajuana ever since. On Oct. 12, they plan to open at 909 Texas to not only highlight their native cuisine but to add to the city’s nightlife.

“We come from a proud Dominican family with deep roots in our culture stemming from both the Dominican Republic and New York City,” Jeremy Zorrilla shared in a text message. “After relocating and over a decade living in Houston, Texas, we found ourselves always missing home.”
